Director of Materials Management Position – Materials Management
United Surgical Partners International, Inc. is searching for a Director of Materials Management. The candidate must have **HEALTHCARE** materials management experience with an emphasis on Orthopedic implants. The position will be based in the Dalla Regional Office located at 7301 N State Hwy 161, Irving, TX. Approximately 25% travel is required.
Under minimal supervision, this position negotiates, directs and implements regional purchasing agreements, processes, contracts and materials management initiatives. This position will report to the Market President, with a dotted line reporting structure to the VP of Procurement in Dallas, TX. The candidate will have responsibility for approximately 40-50 healthcare facilities, of which include both are Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASC’s) and Surgical Hospitals. Primary responsibilities include:
Supporting market cost savings objectives and implementing Best Practices in support of budgeted procurement and productivity initiatives
Leading the negotiation of regional and facility level contracts
Analyzing financial information and implementing strategic solutions to meet budgeted case cost and EBITDA targets
Managing market compliance to USPI and GPO national contracts
Actively participating on the USPI Corporate Procurement Team to stay abreast of industry reforms and corporate initiatives, and providing communication and implementation of those initiatives to the Market.
Providing market focused prioritization and support for the implementation of new contracts, contract conversions, and procurement initiatives
Performing new acquisition integration including capability and competency assessment of materials management personnel and transition support to include system transition, contract conversions, and personnel training.
Performing Materials Management Operational Reviews, audits and monitoring on purchasing and inventory control processes within the Market.
Participating in Home Office Quarterly Business Review (QBR) Meetings.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS of this job description include but are not limited to:
Responsibility for the establishment and maintenance of a work environment that reflects USPI’s EDGE™, performance improvement and customer service program consistent with the Corporation’s Mission Statement.
Lead in the negotiation of rebate and/or tiered level contracts, where appropriate, for specific facilities or entire market. Track all monetary benefits related to these contracts.
Managing Material Management functions within the defined market, to include purchasing, inventory management, distribution of supplies, management and tracking of suppliers and capital equipment.
Training, implementing and directing all facets of the automated Materials Management system – ENVI/Cerner/Meditech.
Researching and evaluating products/services and supplier performance in support of existing and/or new contracts.
Ensuring facility compliance in the purchasing of contracted services, supplies and equipment.
Participating in meetings as a healthcare, procurement, and financial resource to discuss strategic solutions for improving profitability and to ensure that quality products and services are provided.
Analyzing, recommending and adjusting policies and procedures relative to Material Management’s technology practices and suppliers.
Developing and preparing reports and presentations based on usage statistics, purchasing trends, marketing data and savings relative to competitive bidding and national agreements.
Developing and maintaining relationships with various departments and levels throughout USPI and vendor organizations.
Drive savings and improve market financial performance through contract negotiation, process improvements, strategy recommendations, and the implementation of existing GPO and USPI contracts.
Performs budgetary research for capital equipment planning and procurement.
Indirectly creates an environment in which the needs of the facility Material Managers can be met so that they develop and exhibit a high level of productivity and commitment to their facility and can meet the financial and material needs of their departmental customers and facility stakeholders.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, QUALIFICATION and EDUCATIONAL AND /OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’ Degree in business, procurement or health care administration, MBA preferred.
Clinical background required; RN or CST strongly preferred
Acute Care Hospital procurement knowledge strongly preferred
Strong negotiation experience required
Excellent understanding of Ortho Implants
Ability to successfully negotiate with implant vendors
Experience in driving value through rebates and tier level contract negotiation required
3-5 years healthcare materials management experience with at least 2 years supervisory experience
Knowledge of healthcare purchasing, inventory management systems, procurement, supplies distribution/operations and contracting, capital equipment and automated systems.
Excellent analytical required
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong problem solving skills.
Proficient in the Microsoft Product Suite.
Knowledge of IOS/ENVI, Cerner and Meditech systems strongly preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORKING CONDITIONS:
Requires travel to center locations and occasional irregular hours. Must be able to lift up to 35 pounds
