The Associate Vice President, Sterile Processing is responsible for providing quality care by planning, organizing, controlling and coordinating the activities within the framework of existing policies and procedures and regulatory requirements within the operations and supply management of Sterile Processing. This position reports to the Vice President of Supply Chain.
In collaboration with senior management, plans, organizes, implements and evaluates all functions and activities of sterile processing services, including staff, budget, quality performance, targets and goals for metrics and implements initiatives to achieve them.
Leads the development and supports on-going performance for system activities, including systems, equipment, technology, policy development and updates.
Manages ongoing analysis, development and implementation of methods and systems to improve overall efficiency and effectiveness of services and functions.
Operational responsibility for all point-of-use technology; oversees clinical interface with the Clinical Programs Committees, employed and affiliate Physicans Groups and surgery directors.
Analyzes operations to enhance efficiency and standardization and aggregation as well as meet System strategic goals.
Administers regular vendor performance reviews and defines improvement initiatives.
Develops and manages robust financial models and budget processes, including capital forecasting.
Leads a dynamic management team to execute on the business strategy and plan. Will train, develop and educate assigned staff.
Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.

Education: Bachelor’s degree required in healthcare administration, business management, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
Licenses/Certifications: Certified by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution
CBSPD) in Sterile Processing Management (CSPM) or International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) is preferred. Registered Nurse a plus.
Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
Minimum of eight (8) years of progressive management experience in sterile processing, case cart building and inventory management with a strong systems approach.
Experience in hiring, developing, retaining and managing sterile processing, materials management and inventory management staff.
Excellent knowledge of state and national regulatory agency guidelines.
Outstanding cross functional leadership skills.
Ability to build relationships, negotiate, influence, and create win-win situations.
Must be competent at analysis and reporting, and proficient using computer software programs to include Excel, Word, Power Point and Materials Management Applications systems.
Knowledge of project management and process improvement methods such as Lean and Six Sigma.
Familiarity with budget analysis sufficient to develop impact analyses consistent with standard finance requirements and practices.
Strong analytical capabilities to understand and define most critical issues (total cost of ownership, least cost scenario development, and make vs lease vs buy comparisons).
Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills. Must be able to work effectively in collaboration with all levels of staff and produce corporate presentation materials appropriate for medical staff and senior executive review.
