Summary: Reporting directly to the Executive Director, Corporate Supply Chain, the Director, Value Analysis leads VA team functions within and from the Supply Chain Services department with responsibility for achieving supply expense management initiatives and targets utilizing the value analysis process. The Director, Value Analysis leads all value analysis structures across the organization. The Director will develop and execute a structured approach that will maximize our application of Supply Chain data analytics and clinical evidence leading to best in class efficiency, product standardization and utilization. This position will require excellent organizational skills, comprehensive medical product knowledge, impeccable communication skills and a genuine commitment to excellence in program development
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Responsible for developing leading a system-wide value analysis process with the goal of providing high quality, efficient and cost-effective service; this process requires the establishment of and adherence to a streamlined method for standardizing and monitoring product/service selection, utilization and costs
Provides clinical and strategic expertise that facilitates supply expense management while continuously improving quality, safety and satisfaction
Actively works with members of the health care team and system teams to assist them with product selection and conversions, which includes listening to concerns, mediating user issues with manufacturers, and following up on product quality concerns
Takes a lead and facilitation role with local, regional and national GPO organizations and their respective offerings related to supply contracts
Serves staff as both an educator and mentor on the value analysis process; works strategically and tactically to facilitate and identify, analyze, decide and implement best practices and expense management initiatives
Makes significant contributions to Corporate Supply Chain from a price, quality and service perspective
Working with the Executive Director, Corporate Supply Chain, takes an active leadership role with executive leadership, physicians, educators and clinicians on proactive supply chain management strategies to achieve excellence in supply chain
Responsible for development and oversight of the supply chain technology infrastructure, This includes developing meaningful analytics to meet department goals and identifying technology best practices to deploy.
1. Staff Management
1.1 Ensures the team is operating at a high level of efficiency; utilizing process improvement techniques where appropriate. Establish measurable individual and departmental goals and objectives
1.2 Develops and maintains excellent customer communication and service. Development of customer satisfaction plans and measurement tools
1.3 Develops and maintains high levels of employee satisfaction. Development of employee satisfaction plans and measurement using, at a minimum, the Employee Opinion Survey results.
1.4 Maintains a staffing plan, interview and hire new staff.
1.5 Mentor and coach staff within span of control. Assist in conflict resolution of staff and ongoing technical decisions as required.
1.6 Conducts regular staff meetings and individual 1 on 1 meetings with staff to improve quality of work and teamwork.
1.7 Ensures staff is in compliance with technical, departmental, and operational policies.
2. Value Analysis Process
2.1 Lead the development of project generation through collaboration with operations, finance and CSC value analysis team.
2.2 Develop and periodically adjust project management tools to support efforts.
2.3 Direct product/service selection and introduction, investigation, analysis, education, conversion, issues and tracking projected outcomes
2.4 Direct health system task forces and Committees related to products and services, which includes determining strategy and tactical execution, agenda, minutes, and discussion
2.5 Participate in optimizing group purchasing organization contract portfolio
2.6 Maintain policy and procedure for the value analysis process
2.7 Identify supply utilization opportunities
2.8 Collaborate with Medical Officers and department leaders on technology assessment
2.9 Keeps current on technology, regulatory and operational trends in the health care and academic industry which may impact product/service utilization
2.10 Actively participates and communicates as needed with facility executives, physicians, Department Directors and clinical staff regarding new product and technology introductions, product changes and monitoring, communicating, and making improvements to product and technology utilization
2.11 Communicate patient outcome, financial and performance measurements as an indicator of success
2.12 Liaison with supply chain physician to collaborate
3.1 Ensure efficient operations in each of the main areas of responsibility. Efficiency monitored through a set of key performance indicators by area of responsibility. KPIs to include, at a minimum, dashboard improvement, process improvement, budget performance, cost savings, and customer service improvement in alignment with hospital and health system goals.
3.2 Serve as a leader on various Health System level and/or Hospital based committees and projects
3.3 Provide assistance regarding strategy development, barrier removal, communications within all YNHHS facilities and implementation
3.4 Development and ongoing updating of appropriate policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, enhanced business practices, and audit requirements while delivering customer friendly and efficient services.
3.5 Participates in project and operational design meetings to develop the optimal business model and deployment strategy across the enterprise for the supply chain services.
3.6 Demonstration of leadership through staff development, goal setting and progress on department and system level objectives.
3.7 Management of staffing requirements and Human Resource issues.
3.8 Ensures the appropriate connection between CSC Value Analysis and key constituents to ensure hospital based and system based goals and objectives are met.
3.9 Participation in regional and national supply chain groups to ensure Yale New Haven Health System is fully informed on leading practices in the health care supply chain.
Bachelor degree in a business or clinical discipline. Master's Degree Preferred.
Ten years of progressively responsible supply chain / value analysis experience is required
Five years of progressive supervisory experience required
Value Analysis management or consulting experience in a large, operationally complex health system is not required but preferred
Ability to organize resources and establish priorities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to navigate across departments and delivery networks to achieve results. Demonstrated ability to successfully resolve complex problems across multiple departments and/or delivery networks. Serves as the department?s subject matter expert and resources in area of expertise (patient care, finance, operations etc.) ACCOUNTABILITY:
Oversees enterprise wide goal setting and implementation across YNHHS. Responsible for planning, organizing, securing and managing resources to meet the group's project objectives. Effectively communicates with leadership regarding projections, staffing, and periodic project status. Facilitates collaboration amongst the key players across YNHHS. COMPLEXITY:
Provides strategic and tactical vision and recommendations. Develops, implements, and maintains solutions to support business objectives. Directs and creates strategic relationships with both key internal (Physicians, Executives, etc.) and external (Vendors, GPOs, stake holders, etc.) to allow for the maximization of current and new opportunities. Responsible for coordinating all analytics, contracting, procurement and integration with the value analysis activities of YNHHS. PHYSICAL_DEMAND:
