Position Summary: The Director of Materials Management reports directly to the V.P. of Finance and is responsible for the establishment and implementation of policies and procedures related to Material Management Services.
Studies, plans, organizes and administers the materials requirements of the hospital. The related functions include purchasing, receiving, warehousing, inventory control, supply distribution, linen services and financial accounting of supplies distributed.
Supervises the recruitment, hiring, job assignments and training of all employees in the functions listed above.
Establishes, implements, and maintains the appropriate policies, procedures, and internal controls for all applicable materials functions.
Recommends the most effective organization of the department and the complement of employees required.
Coordinates the MMIS program, Paragon, maintaining the system and delegating responsibility to Materials staff. This includes the Item Master, Inventory and taking of periodic inventories for accuracy.
Represents the hospital in negotiations for supplies and equipment, with the objective of obtaining the most beneficial cost/benefit ratio and maintaining compliance to the Group Purchasing Organization.
Furnishes routine and special reports and information to the Administration, V.P. of Finance, Accounting Supervisor and department managers as needed. Review requests for equipment, furnishings, supplies, and other items to assure that purchase requisitions meet with hospital budget guidelines.
Director is responsible for receiving all capital requests during the formulation of capital budgets and placing them into a spreadsheet for Administrative review. He/She will assist departments in obtaining budgetary quotes. It will be maintained each year by the Director of Materials.
Will serve as a consultant to all hospital department managers to resolve supply and equipment needs, and assists with implementation of Materials Management practices in other hospital departments.
Responsible for setting up new supply charges and maintaining the existing supply charge master as required. Implementing the mark-up guidelines for chargeable supplies
Responsible for accuracy of the inventory valuation
Ensure appropriate accounting controls are in place for all material management functions
Physical Requirements: Sitting at a desk working on a computer for the majority of the work day. May occasionally be subjected to stressful volume demands and time constraints.
Experience: Progressive experience in material management operations in the health care field or other related experience. Excellent computer skills, experience with Paragon MMIS preferred. Work experience in a Healthcare System or Integrated Delivery Network a plus.
Certification/Licensure: Certified Materials & Resource Professional (CMRP) a plus.
